The Assistant Dean for Career Planning and Professional Development provides leadership, management, and direct student and alumni services in the area of career services. This position oversees efforts to support JD students and alumni in obtaining employment, which is a high priority for the law school. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, managing personnel; developing and managing a departmental budget; managing public relations/marketing/outreach to students, employers, and alumni; generating and providing reports on topics such as employment statistics and service usage; and providing strategic, comprehensive programming and direct services to law students and alumni to assist with their career planning and professional development.&nbsp; Service to law students and alumni includes, among others, the following activities: • Providing guidance and counseling for students and alumni. • Providing document review of job application materials for students and alumni. • Serving as instructor of record in required, credit-bearing, first-year Career Exploration course &amp; Professional Planning course. • Administering a variety of workshops and programs. • Providing library and web-based resources, including online job listings and newsletters for students. • Administering mentoring programs that match students with professionals. • Administering interview programs. • Administering alumni/student receptions in major cities in and outside of Oregon as appropriate. The Assistant Dean is a participating member of the law school’s administrative team and will be expected to plan, develop, and implement law school projects, policies, and procedures. The person in this position will be expected to participate in the business and activities of the Oregon State Bar and various professional organizations. The person in this position will be an energetic professional, whose leadership, creativity, vision, and interpersonal talents will enable her/him to articulate a positive, compelling vision for the office and its programs. The&nbsp;<a href="https://salc.uchicago.edu/" target="_blank">Department of South Asian Languages and Civilizations</a>&nbsp;at the University of Chicago invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor specializing in the study of Islamicate South Asia to begin July 1, 2024 or as soon as possible thereafter. Research expertise may be in any period between the tenth century and 1947, and may focus on any region of South Asia, including Afghanistan.
Qualifications
The successful candidate will demonstrate a wide-ranging familiarity with Islamic textual traditions and be knowledgeable in the cultural history of Islam in the subcontinent. Applicants are expected to have expertise in at least one relevant South Asian language, such as Urdu, and a solid command of Arabic and/or Persian. They will have an active research agenda leading to publication in leading venues in their area of specialization, be able to teach undergraduate and graduate level classes in English, and to teach advanced reading classes in their language(s) of expertise. Candidates must have completed all requirements for receipt of a PhD in a relevant field by the start date of the appointment.

Assistant Professor in Islamicate South Asia

International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) is a leader in the University of Minnesota’s goal to be a top global learning environment for all its students and scholars.&nbsp; The Associate Director of Student Advising and Counseling leads the ISSS student advising and counseling staff that provide student immigration advising, several engagement programs, crisis management, funding, academic and personal counseling, an international student and scholar tax program, and the issuance of initial and subsequent student documents.
